Is this a correct interpretation? - mailed ActiveState querying inclusion with a book - no reply as yet - remove it for now? - mail all authors whose software is on the WTB saying what it is and that we're about to release 4.0 - CD2HTML index of each WTB - how do we incorporate it into index.html? - batch files on a page together as they're not much really and I'm finding it hard to keep track of them?: change passwords; pspasswd; F-Prot on floppy disk; Mercury anti-virus downloader; - combine todo.txt and todo-longterm.txt - add some comment to musings.txt for 4.0 documentation ------------- - write up removing LeechFTP and BitBeamer (see notes in pad; .txt file) Leech was the only one that did something or other en-masse its lasted me a long time, one of the original batch of programs I collected and used for a long time I can't currently distribuyte LeechFTP haven't had email back from Jan Debis but its development hasn't continued since ????, eventually moving to BitBeamer which you have to pay for after a trial period and so we miss out from having an active development to fix bugs and especially all the deveklopment that happenm, such as security (SSL, SFTP) which Leech doesn't support Fizilla has a 'copy' command for copying bookmarks, which has long been an annoyance by its lacking in LeechFTP (this is useful if you have a web site with multiple places on it you want to put files, you create different bookmarks to jump directly to those places depending what yr uploading. in LeechFTP they had to be re-created each time) FZ currently ? most popular project at SourceForge FZ seems to be quicker LeechFTP was Freeware and not re-distributable on CD-ROMs without author's permission Filezilla is GPLd; and I never got a reply from the author asking if we could distribute it FileZilla bugs: Help is tied to the main app so cant alt-tab.this is really useful so you can be reading the help anbd nip back and foirth between the two 'remember window size and position of filezilla' should be on by default to mimick thre weay things are expected by users of windows can the 'File viewing / editing' section not automatically have all the Windows defaults init and allow them to be changed for FileZilla as I have my system set up with such defaults and I'd expect as many programs as possible to just use those. you can get this information from the registry. or if you're really wanting to keep the existing behaviour, atleast have a button to import the default Windows system settings red light on bottom RHS half lost, and drag bar completely lost Mozilla.org should take note of your option to add the Debug menu no tooltips, as uses status bar instead ISO image problems ------------------ - max chars in Joliet volume label: - with ISO character set: 10 chars - with DOS character set: atleast enough for 'WINTOOLBOX-1-EN' - errors when creating ISO: mkisofs -o wtb-400-en-disc1.iso -D -V "WINTOOLBOX1-EN" -l -A "Windows Toolbox 4.0.0, disc 1, English, ISO 8 June 2004" -r windows [audacity manual images - ignorable] Using ED_BEGINNERS_INITIAL_1_T000.PNG;1 for windows/audio/Audacity 1.2.1 (multitrack audio record, edit) [98,me,2k,xp]/docs/manual/images/ed_beginners_initial_1_track_select_precut.png (ed_beginners_initial_1_track_select_postcut.png) [audacity manual images - ignorable] Using ED_BEGINNERS_INITIAL_1_T001.PNG;1 for windows/audio/Audacity 1.2.1 (multitrack audio record, edit) [98,me,2k,xp]/docs/manual/images/ed_beginners_initial_1_track_select_postcut.png (ed_beginners_initial_1_track_select_cut.png) [audacity manual images - ignorable] Using ED_BEGINNERS_INITIAL_1_T002.PNG;1 for windows/audio/Audacity 1.2.1 (multitrack audio record, edit) [98,me,2k,xp]/docs/manual/images/ed_beginners_initial_1_track_select_cut.png (ed_beginners_initial_1_track_mark.png) [audacity manual images - ignorable] Using ED_BEGINNERS_INITIAL_1_T003.PNG;1 for windows/audio/Audacity 1.2.1 (multitrack audio record, edit) [98,me,2k,xp]/docs/manual/images/ed_beginners_initial_1_track_mark.png (ed_beginners_initial_1_track.png) [ESR writing] Using A_LA_CONQUETE_DE_LA_NOO000.HTML;1 for windows/docs/free-software/writings-by-ESR/francais/a la conquete de la noosphere.html (a la conquete de la noosphere - index.html) [gimp manual] Using GIMPUSERSMANUAL_SECONDED000.PDF;1 for windows/graphics/The GIMP (raster image manipulation) [95,98,me,nt4,2k,xp]/docs/GimpUsersManual_SecondEdition-PDF_Color.pdf (GimpUsersManual_SecondEdition-PDF.pdf) TO DO POST VERSION 4.0.0 ======================== - shockwave and flash - licence runs from 30/6/2004 for 1 year * - its a Windows plug-in rather than a browser plug-in, so enabling Windows and IE but not the likes of Mozilla / Firefox * - licence speaks of 95 but 7 needs 98 min - we need to get hold of the re-distributable version 6.0.79 - where do we get it? as emailed link is only to a generic 'latest version' * - doesn't come in same lang versions stand-alone installers do - is that just the text language of the installer? * - Flash is for IE and Mozila but is Shockwave for IE and Mozilla? as on web site they have seperate downloads for each - uninstaller? - ask licencing people - Bianca Jordan(?) said its probly ok * spoke to Bianca Jordan(?) 01344-458-622 1/7/04 - said players can't be distributed at a profit but i'm ok charging for media etc * tech support: 0131 458 6766 * email to technical support on either 2 or 5 july 2004 from http://www.macromedia.com/support/email/cscontact/?6171=11: I've licenced the Flash and Shockwave players under the 'Macromedia Web Players License and Distribution Agreement' and have a number of queries I am acquainted with the Flash browser plug-in installer which as part of its installation seeks out relevant installed web browsers and installs the plug-in into them. The .msi installer I downloaded from http://www.macromedia.com/go/fl_sw_installer seems to be what I am thinking of as a 'Windows' plug-in (perhaps enabling Windows programs in general to display Flash content?) rather than a 'browser' plug-in as it installs instead into %WINDIR%\SYSTEM32. What is the difference between these installers? The licence says Shockwave and Flash are compatible with Windows 95; the public download page for the Flash Player (perhapos also Shockwave) says version 7 needs a minimum of Windows 98. the download link I received in email for the re- distributable versions of Shockwave and Flash players is for Flash 7 and Shockwave 10 - where do I find re-distributable versions of Flash 6.0.79 and whichever is the latest version of Shockwave compatible with Windows 95 (I understand I'm not allowed to distribute the .exe installer I already have a copy of of Flash 6.0.79) The post-licencing email I received with the download link for the re-distributable Flash and Shockwave installers says the installer is for English, French, German and Japanese - are these the localised versions of Windows they're compatible with? is there other language versions available? Is it also legal for me to distribute the Flash and Shockwave UNINSTALLER along with the installer, its available along with the installer from your web site - received response from EMEA_CS_ES at macromedia.com who forwarded my questions to Flash/Shockwave team, saying would get reply within a week. didn't get reply within 2 weeks so mailed him back on 26/7/04 software to checkout -------------------- - see also windows-dev local directory - see also 'toolbox update' browser bookmarks - Directshow Filters for Ogg Vorbis, Speex, Theora and FLAC - http://www.illiminable.com/ogg/ ? - Mozilla language modules (canadian, Welsh) - replace wget with curl? someone on Slashdot recommended it - CAD - qCAD 1.5.1 (2D CAD) (GPL for Linux/OSX, proprietary for Win, $26, Win/Lin/OSX, 10% of AutoCAD) - CYCAS (http://www.cycas.de/down.php?s=en#top) (2D,3D architectural drawing) ($) - PGP 8; QDPGP 2.70 - WYSIWYG web editor (do we need one other than OOo/Mozilla composer?) - need personal (Mozilla eventually), and shared, diary/calendar - HTML Tidy GUI - proxy software - fax software (Windows 95 and 2000 come with fax s/w tho) - FlaskMPEG? - maybe change 'diagnostics' to 'hardware'. and move non-hardware stuff out - RSS client: http://dmoz.org/Reference/Libraries/Library_and_Information_Science/Technical_Services/Cataloguing/Metadata/RDF/Applications/RSS/News_Readers/ - BitTorrent client - ask Kx driver author which he considers current 'stable version' - done, awaiting reply licencing --------- - translations of our licence should heed http://www.gnu.org/licenses/translations.html - Artistic License - "Freely Available" means that no fee is charged for the item itself, though there may be fees involved in handling the item. It also means that recipients of the item may redistribute it under the same conditions they received it. - useful template text, from povlegal: 4.3. I think the only extra requirement is that we include their images (we need to look at to what extent), hopefully only having them in the Copyright section - does this change if we want to offer download from web site? doesn't look like it: http://www.macromedia.com/support/shockwave/info/licensing/faq.html#item-2 - "Licensee will provide notice of and impose the restrictions in this Section, upon its distributors, resellers, licensees and end users including setting the restrictions forth in an end user license." - "If licensee licenses the Shockwave Player and Flash Player, then Licensee is required to display both logos.
