UltraVNC Unattended Installation: http://www.uvnc.com/install/unattended.html

We create an ultravnc-installer-settings.inf file containing pre-configuration for the UltraVNC installer. This file is created using UltraVNC-102-Setup.exe /saveinf="Filename". This file is also available from each Roaming Computing System version's page. These are the options we choose:

  • Select Components
    • UltraVNC Server - on
      • UltraVNC Mirror Driver - on
    • UltraVNC Viewer - off
    • DSM Encryption Plugin - off
    • UltraVNC Repeater - off
  • Select Additional Tasks
    • Register UltraVNC Server as a system service - on
    • Start or restart UltraVNC service - on
    • Configure MS-Logon II - off
    • Configure Admin Properties - if you select this you can load saved settings file ultravnc-program-settings.reg when you select 'Next', or don't select it and continue to configure UltraVNC manually
    • Clean old VNC registry keys - ?
    • Create UltraVNC desktop icons - optional

Silent Installer Options (from http://www.uvnc.com/install/installation.html#automate):

  • /dir="Dirname" - Sets installation directory to Dirname
  • /silent or /verysilent - Suppresses either pop-up of dialog boxes or any GUI at all.
  • /loadinf="Filename" - Loads the configuration file Filename for the installation. This configuration file can be generated by going through setup with UltraVNC-xxxx-Setup.exe /saveinf="Filename". Filename should be fully qualified
  • /log - Writes a log file to the Temp directory

The installer settings we use to load the pre-configuration is /silent /loadinf="\\server\windows-admin\wpkg\ultravnc\ultravnc-installer-settings.inf".

We choose the following UltraVNC configuration:

  • Admin Properties / UltraVNC Server Property Page - Set a 'VNC Password'
  • Disable TrayIcon - on - keeps the user interface simpler

This configuration is saved in ultravnc-program-settings.reg, which itself is automatically loaded by ultravnc-installer-settings.inf when it is loaded by the installer, thus automatically configuring UltraVNC.

UltraVNC configuration is kept in the Windows registry.

UltraVNC Server is blocked by the Windows Firewall and when installed silently (RCS (Windows Edition) 3.3 or later) gives no prompt to unblock it. To allow it to operate you can use netsh firewall add portopening TCP 5900 "VNC server" enable all; or Control Panel → Windows Firewall → Exceptions → Add → ...; or TWEAK 0.9.1 or later's option K → B
